Gelatin is just a processed version of a structural protein called collagen that is found in many animals, including humans.Collagen actually makes up almost a third of all the protein in the human body. It is a big, fibrous molecule that makes skin, bones, and tendons both strong and somewhat elastic. As you get older, your body makes less collagen, and individual collagen fibers become crosslinked with each other. You might experience this as stiff joints or wrinkles.

trimester 1 reflection
this trimester i learned the difference between benign tumors and malignant tumors. a benign tumor is an abnormal mass of essentialy normal cells. this can easily be removed by surgery. benign tumors are not anywhere as severe as a malignant tumor is. a malignant tumor is a mass of cells as a result of cancer cells. this is a very serious thing and cannot be removed by surgery. there are two types of treatment, chemotherapy, where a patient is given antibiotics that disrupt cell divison. another type of treatment is radiation therapy, this is where the cancer area is directly exposed to high radiation disrupting cell division. cancer is a disease caused by disruption of mechanisms usually in charge of the cell cycle.
what i found difficult is differentiating between the different types of bonds polar, hydrogen, ionic, covalent and the other ones.

REFLECTIONS
I have learned this about the function of membrane. The plasma membrane is the thin outer boundary of a cell that regulates the traffic of chemicals between the cell and its surroundings. It has control of what substances can enter the cell and which can not. The function of plasma membrane is to keep all of the contents of the eukaryotic cell inside of the cell. This function is made possible by proteins. phospholipids make up the plasma membrane.
What i have found difficult is all of the vocabulary needed to understand the concepts in this chapter. when i read about how certain organelles and different parts of a cell interact in order to relate them together and fully comprehend any of these concepts i have to go back to my vocabulary list and refresh my memory. memorization of all of the vocabulary is a major challenge for me.
There are many ways in which energy is utilized with in an organism to do work. Some actions in a cell require no energy to be expended, such as passive transport diffusion across a membrane requiring only the random motion of molecules. Then theres active transport movement of molecules across a membrane requiring energy to be expended by the cell.

Introduction
Germination is the process by which a plant or fungus emerges from a seed or spore and begins growth. The germination process for red radish seeds takes, on average 3-4 days. They prefer direct sunlight, but also thrive in cooler conditions, like temperatures around 45-85 degrees. When placed in direct sunlight, red radish seeds change to a light green color. They respond to rich well drained soil. The soil should be freed of rocks, stones, clods, lumps, and undecayed organic materials.
The purpose of this lab is to observe the effects of different compositions of fertilizers on the seeds. If red radish seeds are placed exposed to different brands of fertilizers, how much, if at all will the germination process be effected? Which compositions will slow down, speed up, or not effect the process? In order to answer these questions we must preform a lab experiment on test several seeds and see how they react under these circumstances, and record our observations.
